Asheville Citizen Times - article on my Dad & Trip to France

This is the piece of the wing of "The Big Bitch" (B-17) presented to me in Saint-Vougay, Brittany, France by the French associations: "Amicale du Octobre 21 1942" and "Brest44," (inscribed and autographed by them) whose mission it is to keep the memory of my father's downed Flying Fortress alive from generation to generation in gratitude for the American and British liberation from the Nazis.

Supreme Court Strikes Again for the Oil Crooks

I don't really WANT to write about politics. But the state that our country is in leaves me no choice, if I am to vent the outrage I feel every time I read a newspaper.

The latest is the Supreme Court of the U.S. overturning the Exxon Valdez oil spill judgment. Yes, it's taken Exxon a few years, but they have reversed the fines on the Exxon Valdez oil spill case down to ONE-TENTH of the original judgment by bringing it before the biased and highest court in the land, the new REPUBLICAN Supreme Court who decidedly aids and abets oil men, because they can. First they let George W. Bush steal the election from Gore and now they've made sure Exxon holds onto billions of their profits in this new reversal.

The really sad thing (beside how much this country NEEDS the money) is that the ORIGINAL fine to Exxon represents ONLY four days of their monthly profits. So this reversal brings the fine down to something of a hand slap, and is the amount that they already paid out (since 1989) for cleanup and reparations. The rest of their fine was simply not paid for 19 years while they appealed until they won. Ain't it
nice to have friends in high places?

No bed fellows like oil men! Bush, Cheney, Alito....just pass me the barf bag, please.

(The Supreme Court divided on its decision, 5-3, with Justice Samuel Alito taking no part in the case because he owns Exxon stock.)

Another example of how environmental issues have NO significance for the right wing of this country. Money and power is their agenda, and where it will end if it is not soon stopped is a frightening thought indeed.
